Dogs Knock Down Northstars

The Sydney Ice Dogs took down the league leading Northstars 3-2 last Sunday night at the Liverpool Catholic Club Sports Complex. With 5 Ice Dogs out of the line-up due to suspensions and injuries it was going to be a tough slog for the home side, especially when Casey Minson from the Northstars got his team ahead by one early on. Canadian Import Brock Backus however took care of Minson minutes later by dropping the gloves.

Ice Dogs rookie defenceman Shannon Macgregor replied for the Dogs with his first ever AIHL career goal leaving the scores locked at 1-1 before the first intermission.
Ice Dogs goaltender Jimmy Herbert was sensational in net, making desperate kick saves to keep his team in contention. Jimmy wasn’t the only James on fire as Import Jamie Galbraith scored a slippery goal upstairs on national team goaltender Matt Ezzy escaping two of the Newcastle defenders.

Sydney knew the night was far from over and Newcastle’s Import John Halverson confirmed that notion when he tied things up with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The Dogs held their composure and it would be Jimmy Herbert’s brother Scottie who would put home the game winner as the Pups walked away with the win.

The Sydney Ice Dogs will play their Last Home Game of the year August 16th Sunday night against the Adelaide Adrenaline at the Liverpool Catholic Club Sports Complex. Game starts at 5pm, Adults are $12 and Kids are $6.

    Hi

Sunday night my friends and i were at the Ice Dogs game which was my fourth game this year. Yes i know that some of your spectators have been to a lot more but due to Church Activities my mate and I can not get to more games. However as i said out of the 4 games we have seen the Ice Dogs have won every one of them and last nights over the Northstars was spectacular. This event was a church event of sorts and the group of 11 people that attented some of who have never seen Ice Hockey had said how much they enjoyed it.
The highlight of the night was when Scott Stephenson took a little boy by the name of Jeremy back to the change room to meet the team and to later reemerge with a Hockey stick from one of the players.
Well done guys that was a awesome gesture and when i recieve photos i will sure send them to you.The guys made that boy very happy and being from Canada on Holidays have possibly instilled a career in Ice Hockey.
Buy the way that was the best fight i’ve seen in the 4 matches.

    Regards
    Ian Pearse (Duck 27)

  2. Scott Stephenson Says:

    Hey Ian,

Firstly, thank you so much for coming out to our games and supporting the team. It really means alot to us.

Secondly thank you for the kind words. The more kids playing hockey for us is the utlimate goal.

Look forward to the photos. We can probably put them up on the site as well.

hey dan,why didnt the ppl around us cheer when the pic was taken, maybe we should have our own little seating and become “the dog pound” and perhaps aencourage the ppl around us to go a little crazy? i suggest a little body paint maybe? whose keen on that?
i take it we will all be there on sun night again and ive managed to ring in some more ppl who have never been but have said they have always wanted to go and watch so maybe we can go ape this sun night for the team?

  6. DanSON14 Says:

    Jonno22 WooHoo!!! DOG POUND!!!

Great idea im up for the body paint.
you coming up to newcastle wearing our icedog jerseys for the finals i no the dogs might not make the finals but we will let the other teams know who to fear in 2010!!!

    Go ICE DOGS!!!

  7. Scott Stephenson Says:

    Hey Boys,

Love the idea of the pound section. We can maybe reserve a section for the pound kinda like what they do in the NRL. I will leave part of the recruiting up to you guys :) and we can maybe advertise it on the website where people can sign up for that reserved section on the pre-requisite that they will:

    a)Go nuts
    b) Need to wear an Ice Dogs Jersey
    c) Be open to occassional face paint!

Thanks again for all the support this year Because with out our supporters we are nothing!

    Looking for next season already!

  8. Ian Pearse Says:

Great idea about the pound section guys with the facepaint and all. I’ll be in it i’ve gone nuts at every game i’ve been to this year.

If i could get my hands on a new jersey i would wear mine in Newcastle as well.

It’s up to us fans to bring people along to the games. I have a group of 13 going to Newcastle possibly a couple of more.

  9. JOHNNO22 Says:

HEY DAN, I CANT MAKE THE FINALS THIS YEAR AS I’LL BE ON HOLIDAYS AND MAKING MY WAY OUT TO BIRDSVILLE RACES,MAYBE YOU CAN HOOK UP WITH IAN PEARSE AND GET HIM RECRUITED FOR “THE DOG POUND” NEXT YEAR EH?
SPOKE TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER ON SUN NIGHT AFTER THE GAME AND COULD MAYBE ORGANISE A BANNER FOR IT BUT I GUESS SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO TALK TO LCC FROM THE HOCKEY CLUB TO MAYBE HANG IT IN A SECTION ON GAME NIGHT?
ALSO GOT A BLOKE WHO CAN MAKE SOME SUPPORTERS SHIRTS STATING “THE DOG POUND” ON IT SOMEWHERE AND MAYBE AGAIN GET PERMISSION TO USE THE LOGO,ALL VERY EXCITING TO WORK OUT AND CANNOT WAIT UNTIL NEXT SEASON.ANYONE KNOW WHERE YOU CAN BUY BODY PAINT,NOT THE CHOCOLATE TYPE EITHER?
WOULD WE BE ALLOWED TO USE PROPS LIKE HORNS,DUCK CALLERS,ETC OR WOULD LCC BE AGAINST THAT?
HAD A BALL GOIN THERE WITH YOU GUYS THIS SEASON,BRING ON 2010

  10. Ian Pearse Says:

    Hey Johnno

Some of your ideas i dont know about but the few games i managed to get to i have heard people using horns supporting the opposition.
As to facepaint i dont see why not.But get in contact with rink and find out.
I’ve got a mate who i know will join us. ? whose your NHL team i have a tipping comp going this years NHL season so far i have 6 in it.
If interested leave it in the reply and i’ll get back.
Ps i’ll be one of the few wearing Anaheim Duck clothing in Newcastle unless by some miracle i got my hands on a dog jersey.

Ian Ice Dog fan and proud supporter of the Ducks

  11. DanSON14 Says:

    Hey Ian pearse,
to tell you the truth i have no idea about the NHL the first ice hockey team i ever went for is the DOGS. now im hooked.

  12. Ian Pearse Says:

First things first if you are interested in the NHL is to go to http://www.nhl.com/index.html here you can find all 30 teams that play.

Secondly if you seriously want to watch any of it go to http://gamecenter.nhl.com/nhlgc/console.jsp pay $30 per month you can watch up to 40 games a week or rely on foxtel to show some games.

Thirdly you could go to http://www.petitiononline.com/nhl10/petition.html and sign the petition thats going to show some games on one hd.
