Game Review
Close But No Cigar
The Sydney Ice Dogs clawed back from a five goal deficit in the first period to score five unanswered goals and tie the game, forcing a shootout where the visiting Adelaide Adrenaline escaped with the shootout win 6-5. With the playoffs out of reach for the Ice Dogs there was nothing left but pride on the line which was put to the test when Adelaide went on a scoring spree putting Sydney deep in the doghouse five goals down.
“It wasn’t the best start to a game and we were far from playing our best hockey which we addressed in the change room after the first period” explains Todd Stephenson who scored the first goal in the Ice Dogs comeback. Not far behind Stephenson was team mate Scottie Herbert who notched the second goal from a set-up by veteran Chris Sekura.
Of course no comeback would be complete with out a bit of good old fashioned mongrel. “When we started finishing our body checks and getting under their skin, it opened up the ice and allowed us more room to attack the net” explains Jamie Galbraith who sniped the third goal to leave the second period at 5-3 in favour of Adelaide.
By the third period the LCC Sports Complex was on the edge of their feet cheering their Dogs on as Stephenson and Galbraith both put up their second goals of the night. The Dogs could have won the game in regulation time when Import Matt Monaghan hit the puck out of mid air into the net, but the goal was disallowed due to a high stick on the play leaving the game to end in a shootout.
One of Australia’s best forwards Greg Oddy scored on the first shot of the shootout for Adelaide and despite Jimmy Herbert’s two big saves afterwards the pups failed to score on their end allowing Adelaide to salvage the win.
Next week the Ice Dogs are on the road to Adelaide and Melbourne to complete the season.

I just finished reading the game report.Although this is my first Aussie season i am proud to be a fan of the Ice Dogs. When one doesn’t get to a game its good to read the report and it’s great to see some pics.
I was their in Newcastle last year when the dogs won their semi and at that stage had only discovered the Aussie Season.
I want to say two things here 1) Well done you have done your best for the season. 2)Hurry up 2010 season so we can start again.
Ps As long as the Northstars don’t win i’m happy

I was late to the game and missed the first period but i was on the phone driving to the game talking to JOHNNO22 and i found out they were 4 down. i rushed to get there and when i did gave the dogs the they support from the croud they needed and diserve. it was an exciting game for the next two periods. i remember from the last time adelaide played at liverpool it was funny seeing #21 from adelaide give cheap shots all game but not stand up to anyone except when behind the refs or in his dugout. oh wait i lie he did stand up to someone a dogs supporter in the foyer. i think someone cant handle the sledging he got. it will only be time before the icedogs gives back to there fans and dish out some to old mate #21. sticks down for #21. untill next game.
any one up for the playoffs look in the crowd there will be icedog jerseys.

I think Northstars might take out the title when they played the bears they played as a team extremely well. that might have been cause the bears are shithouse this season. the northstars may be on top atm but i havnt seen any stand out talent from anyteam except the dogs when they came from behind to level the game at 5-5. NICE!!!

Thanks for your support this season Ian and do us proud up in Newcastle!
Also forgot to mention Dan in my other blog post that there is a forum at http://www.hockeypulse.com.au. Alot of supporters from other teams are really active on there and the Doggies don’t have too many supporters speaking their mind, so might be good to jump on there and check it out.
Again we will put the forum initiative on the wishlist, it might not be as soon as next season as we are trying to increase the speed of info onto the website like live scores and game reviews uploaded after the game and maybe even video highlights to enhance the web experience for you guys etc.
Again thanks for all your support and yelling your lungs out for us, it makes comebacks from 4-0 down possible and without you guys we are nothing.
Enjoy the summer and your weekend up in Newcastle.
