The BANQ Ice Dogs broke their dry spell Saturday night at home in front of a passionate ice dogs crowd with a convincing 4-1 win. Besides a slight altercation with the Gold Coast bench in the second period, the Dogs had played their most disciplined hockey to date but we’ll get to that part shortly.
Import Chad Elliot opened the scoring with a great top shelf goal on the powerplay set up by Derek Campbell. Campbell then contributed to the second goal as he shot it through Bluetongues goaltender Luke Fiveash for it to be laying on the line for linemate Scott Stephenson to pop it in. That left the Dogs in front 2-0 at the end of the first. Goaltender Jim Herbert was on his A game stepping up and making some crucial saves to cement the early lead.
Anthony Wilson almost made it 3-0 however his goal was disallowed with a man in the goalies crease. Scott Stephenson was set up by Derek Campbell again to then make it 3-0. Gold Coast Bluetongues Import Dallas Costanzo took care of Scott Stephenson with a big clean hit that sent him flying over the boards and into the Gold Coast bench which erupted into a bit of a malete when younger brother Todd and Derek Campbell came in to get him.
The homeside found themselves with a man in the box and the Bluetongues found themselves a goal closer as Import Mike Mcrae buried from in front after his first attempt was blocked by Herbert.
But that was as close as the Bluetongues would get as Ice Dogs Todd Stephenson put the puck away to ensure a 4-1 victory and their first win of the season.

That was a awesome game and congrats to the guys for the team effort all round.
Jimmy was superb on Saturday night and was looking good for a shut out until those friggin lizards scored.
Fight was top notch and just deserved i expect the team to back each other up like that.
Their was lots of improvements especially in defense in breaking up tongue plays and the penalty kills were sensational.
Rink announcing was heaps better and crowd knew excatly what was happening.
Hat of to the boys with the Megaphone you guys did a sensational job in pumping up our lads and with myself yelling and screaming as well it was a great night.
Listen Boys (Team and Supporters alike)i’ve seen enough NHL to know that teams that peak at the start are not usually at the Stanley Cup it’s the teams that start not so well and gradually find their form in the season that make it to the Finals. We are not out of this by no means and if the team plays like they did from here out we are going to win the Cup this Year.

Fantastic effort all around Dogs! Jimmy was (as Dan calls him) THE ROCK…Willo lead from the front and has shown great form with his shots. Have go boys. Great discipline shown this game but you know us fans all love seeing the Biffo when called for. Cristo (I shall now call him) Monty Cristo, had an awesome game. Can’t wait for the return trip up north in the Lizards territory. I’ll be there to hopefully witness the resurgence of the dogs and a white wash over the QLD’s.
Go you Mongrels.. Oh and someone stop that Big ASS 44 from picking on Sherby…

p.s guys if your a mad supporter, come sit with “the dog pound” far end of the rink, get a little rowdy with us and maybe teach us some chants or sledges(as long as their family friendly).give dan a break on the megaphone, bang a drum, pull out props and heckle but get down our end for some fun….we wont bite(hard)

Nice idea Johnno just might take that idea on,how about some of those nois y horns you used to hear at cricket games,or even some ref whistles so we can drive them (refs)nuts as well.
Only prob i see is its a good view from the red line of both ends but i think i might come down at the Northstars game and take part.I remember the last No star game and taking the mickey out of their goalie while he was down that end i’m pretty sure i put him of that night.
It felt on Sat night that while their seemed to be numbers for the dogs ice side it seemed pretty quiet except for yourself and Danson.
Keep up the good work in the Pound.

3 – 0 series win would be good..!!!!
June 5th, 2010 at 10:08 am
yeah i agree with you ian, certainly had the numbers for support but it seems they might have left their voices at home.been to watch the dogs play at canberra and newey and those guys know how to get behind their teams thats for sure, canberra is a whole different place to go,believe me very hostile(cant wait to go back there for the last game)and newey are very vocal.the reason we chose to sit down there is so we dont offend anyone with kids who are season ticket holders or managment really, not that we swear or anything, but maybe heckling is not there thing they like to hear,i dont know really but i think that is the main reason we chose to sit there.come on down bring your noise makers and have a bloody good time i reckon
June 7th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
oh shit yeah i didnt buy the megaphone to hide from people. i want the other team and the 3 clowns(refs) to know they cant come to liverpool and hide from the sledging from the megaphone.
