Home Game Preview vs Newcastle Northstars

Next Home Game: Saturday June 12th at the LCC Sports Complex against the Northstars

Last time these two teams faced off was in Newcastle back in May where the Ice Dogs bounced back from 3-1 down to take a 6-3 lead to lose in a shootout.  Long story short, expect another epic battle to continue as these two rivals face off this time at the LCC Sports Complex.

An Ice Dogs match-up wouldn’t be complete this season without a little adversity with the latest challenge being the loss of two imports to one game suspensions, namely Derek Campbell and Andrew DeCristoforo.   “We have found ways to win games missing key players in the past, guys are going to have to step up again and play some desperate hockey” says Defenceman Tomas Manco.

Import Matt Monaghan also threw out a little challenge to his teammates “lets just say I offered a little incentive for the guys to finish their checks and play some hard working hockey this weekend”.

The puck drops at 5pm this Saturday night against the Northstars at the LCC Sports Complex in Liverpool.  Adults $12, Kids $6.  For venue information click on the venue page of www.icedogs.com.auIf you want friendly game reminders make sure you join “The Pound” e-newsletter list. You can also come meet the Ice Dogs after the game across the road at the Liverpool Catholic Club for some dinner and drinks

We have followed you guys for the past 3 years now and without a doubt this is the WORST season ever. The chemistry is all wrong. You seem to have forgotten what you are on the ice for. TO PLAY HOCKEY NOT TO TAKE TURNS IN THE PENALTY BOX. We travel over an hour, pay 4 sets of tolls to do what? see you start fights, sit in the penalty box and completely ruin your chances of winning, week after week after week. Sat night was packed out with Ice Dog fans for the Newcastle game at LCC. Most supporters were just yelling for you guys to stay out of the penalty box and PLAY HOCKEY. Enough is enough, get your act together and your ego’s/tempers under control. We don’t want the Ice Dogs to become Slush Puppies.

  3. Danson14 Says:

Oi buddy do you understand y the fights started? Would say it was not the best game they played but they seemed to controle their penaltys pretty we’ll aposed to there other games. Wouldn’t be hockey if there wad no penaltys.I was screaming out no cheap penaltys like holding or tripping ect I can say they have improved alot. If you think the guys are not playing to win and for the supporters you are wrong. If the guys want anything more they don’t want to let us down. I’m not here to argue with you but we are together as a whole team, players supporters coaches and even the raffle ticket chic( who riggs it but we won’t go there). Could say it hasn’t been the best of season for the boys but win loose or draw they are the dogs we are the dog pound and nothing will change that ice dogs for life. Where you live did you travel to blacktown and norwest. Will you be at the next game.

  4. Danson14 Says:

Hey Vikki if you are unsure about getting money for the Canberra trip I’ll give $500 towards it I don’t care what the cost. Dogs and dog pound together. I don’t mind just want to get to Canberra to support the guys and after last time we got to be there.

  5. cam Says:

the dogs will always have the dog pound win or lose thats what sport is u win some u lose some the other teams just get under our skin and then the guns are out give us a good game thats all we will back you dog pound for life

  6. Heywood Says:

This is my first post to a competitors site. I follow the Northstars. I have been saying for years that the Dogs outplay and skate all over us and would be unbeatable if only they could stay out of the penalty box. Everybody likes a bit of biff in the game, but we go to games to see good, enjoyable hockey, not streetfighting on ice. I didn’t have a problem with the Dogs when they beat us in the grandfinal in 2004, as that was a relatively good clean game and the Dogs deserved the win. Come on boys clean up your act and maybe the scores will be in your favour. All everyone wants is good hockey.

  7. Yen Says:

Thanks Heywood. thats exactly what we think as well.

  8. Ian Pearse Says:

For sake of Negative or Positive i am going to risk a lot from commenting right now.

I’ve been following our Ice Dogs in Australia since the 2008 Final on Saturday which is when i only found out about Ice Hockey in Australia due to poor Advertising by the governing bodies.

Last Saturdays game was arguably not very controlled with Dicipline by players and the referee as well which undoubtedly led to a lot of Hostile emotions on the ice

Ice Hockey itself is about good hard hits, some disagreements and of course fighting but mostly about skill and disipline. Both teams lacked both of these on Sat night. I saw moments of some great hockey but i also saw moments of crap from both sides of the fence.

Can i say this to the team it’s been a observation from where i am sitting that a lot of goals have been scored from Herberts Right side so if we strengthen the defense that way we can help our goalie out more.Attack was reasonably good but defence is in my observation a bit lacking in helping our Goalie out of trouble.Shooting from the point gets some great goals but i would like to see more of getting the puck to the net and in the goalies face start upseting the other goalie and put them of their game.

I am very sorry if this upsets anybody but our team did not play their best, the game against the Toungues was fantastic in all areas and very enjoyable. We need this kind of good Hockey to win not the penalty spree we had on Saturday which the Ref had a good hand in.

Lastly can someone who can please make sure that Saturday’s ref never gets a game again this season he had no idea. How long does it take to sort out penalties in the first place i have no doubt that this alone help lead to some of the Hostilities in the first place.

I’m dispointed that i’m not the only one with 27 now.

Lets go Ice Dogs Lets go.

  9. Gozza Says:

Well said Ian. As passionate as all the Dogs supporters are, we still want to see our boys go out Hit hard (clean) and get that puck burried in the oppositions net. Shoot to score and not for the sake of shooting. Agree with Ian in giving “The Rock” Jimmy some cover at the back. Not being a player but just from a fans perspective, why is it that the Dogs tend to back up and skate backward instead of lining them up and putting the other teram off their run when they are attacking? The dogs of old would have the opposition rattled after a few clean hits. Nevertheless, we are your fans and will support you all the way. Scotty, your next home game, I woulod like to tell the entire team in the room before the game to look up at the DOGPOUND and ackowledge your supporters. I guarantee we will be making a hell of a lot of noise for you guys!!! Look up (all of you) and then dig deep for all…..Good luck in Canberra. I wish we could make it but we will be out in force at the next home game. “MONGREL!!!!!”

  10. JOHNNO22 Says:

hey guys,if we are looking for answers then maybe you could take a little from each comment left here because ive got to agree with ian and say we do leak alot of goals from jimmys right side now i sit and think about after it was pointed out,and also with gozza about lining up and skating backwards with the attack instead of giving a check or something to to put them off a shot or pass on the fly. i am only a spectator and not a player so im not going to pretend that i know all the fundamentals of the game.i have spoken to a few players after the games and they know they need to lift a bit,but to me,like i stated,im a supporter i personally dont think they are playing unattractive hockey its the little
penalties that are killing us and giving the opposition far too many chances to capitalize on power plays.which could bring us to another topic in a roundabout way,yes i am part of the dog pound, but do we need to heckle the refs at the end of each period when they come off? dan you know as well asi do that like in our sport doing this does not really work in our favour and its probably the same in this sport that we ALL love to watch.if a call dosnt go our way, shrug it off and get back to it.also dan like i msg you after the game maybe we could rev the crowd up with the megaphone instead of trying to personally attack opposition players cause that dosnt seem to be working either.and last but not least i am a fan till the end, win, lose or draw so im not worried about spending money on tolls to get to games and stuff cause i believe that is just money hungry nsw government entities and you would have to pay that regardless of which sport you choose to watch, win lose or draw to get there.i believe if you support a team of any code you support them regardless if they are winning or losing…this is not a personal attack on anyone so please dont take it as one,we all need to work together to support our ice dogs, they know we are there 100%
    we going to canberra anyone?

  11. JOHNNO22 Says:

p.s thanks to all the players who give a little time to sign things for the kids who hang around after the game, especially mine…it is the thrill of it for them to have you guys do it,mine are always wrapped to get an autograph or even a hello off the player and call them by their name, yes my girls are in love with scotty and todd cause they know their names and look forward to coming each home game.i should have bought them all season passes but i thought it would be just a boy thing, even my wife loves it,so thanx guys

  12. Gozza Says:

Fans! Just to let you know, I have bought some very noisy horns (like the Newcastle fans have) and I will be handing them out at the next home game for dog pound fans. As many as I have that is about 15 or so. Trust me these things are noisy so let’s fire up.

  13. DanSON14 Says:

yeah we need some more noise out there besides my loudspeaker

  14. Ian Pearse Says:

What if some of us don’t always sit their can someone else get one of these horns if not where did you purchase them from.

Johnno you are spot on,it has been a concern of mine all year that the crowd at LCC is not getting revved up to back their players.A lot sit on their bums and do nothing which ticks me off to a point.Danson is it possible to get in our faces so to speak before games and even during the intermission to keep the fans pumped up.Also during the games we need to get some decent chanting going on.I’ve tried every game singing out Let’s go Ice Dogs Lets go which is something the crowds do a lot of in the States but to no avail.

We need to get our crowd as passionate as the No Star supporters are.Even the Bluetongue mob are capable of making more noise at times.

By the way this was no attack on the Pound but at the crowd in General. You Guys and gals in the pound do a great job but we need pockets of loud mouths and noise all through the crowd.
I agree that the players should acknowledge the whole crowd when they come out at the start of each period and not just the start of the first.Because if they do that we will just scream blow yell even more than we do now.

  15. Gozza Says:

Guys, these can be bought at the Wetherill Park Reject shop with all the soccer paraphernalia. $2 for a large and small blower…the small one really makes an awesome noise. You guys will experience this at the next home game. Damn so wanted to go to Canberra with these things but can’t…
