Canberra’s Import Goalie Lowe tends to turn it up a notch against the Ice Dogs and last Saturday night was no exception leading his side to a 3-1 win in Canberra. The Ice Dogs played a far better disciplined game and stepped up defence deadlocking the scores at 0-0 after the first period. The Penalty Kill was a lot stronger by the BANQ Ice Dogs until Canberra’s import Sean Scarborough broke away from the pack and scoring a back hand shot against Jim Herbert.
Despite the goal Jim Herbert had stepped up his game an was playing with a lot more confidence making some key saves in the game. Canberra however snuck another goal past him before the end of the second leaving a two goal deficit for the Ice Dogs to recover from. Meanwhile at the other end of the Ice the Dogs were peppering the net with shots but just couldn’t find the back of the net.
Defenceman Dave Dunwoodie tried to find some momentum for his side going toe to toe with Stu Philps from the Knights. Dogs Import Matt Monaghan put his hand up and scored with five minutes left in the game giving his struggling side some momentum and the upper hand until Scarborough broke away from the pack again scoring on a breakaway to make the final score 3-1.
Despite addressing discipline and the penalty kill the Ice Dogs still need to work on generating offence and scoring some goals to start winning some hockey games.

Saw the stats for the game and looks like a great effort with 44 shots on goal but as i keep saying to my mate it’s not the shots on goal its the ones that go in that count.
Besides the Double 10 on Dunwoodie the Ice Dogs have done a nice job of keeping out of the box especially when we had the same ref as the last home game.Looks like it was a really good game.
I’m looking forward to reading comments from the guys who were their to support. Will be their on Sat ready for the Lizards to get their tales cut off by the Dogs skates.

It’s the first time I’ve been to Canberra to watch hockey, man, what a crowd! The atmosphere is unbelievable..!!!
The first two periods were really close with the knights getting a couple of lucky breaks. The third period was intense. Some real good hockey from our forwards around the net. (Highlight of my night was screaming “YES..!!!!” when that goal went in. All the knights supporters around me were dead quite just looking at me cheer!)
Well done to all the boys. Loved every minute.

mate im still recovering. lol
would like to thank all who organised the road trip it was very much appreciated and as a fan would be something that i will never forget.
the bus trip down there was cruisie with the guys just relaxing listening to music, sleeping etc.
got some lunch on the way down at a truck stop maybe next we skip that one lol.
got to the rink with hour or so to spare the guys got organised in the sheds put some music on to get pumped up to.
the players went out side and started kicking a soccer ball around for warm up. (my eyes lit up seeing the round ball because after all is the world game).
got involved with the elimination “keep the ball up”. I think Manco must be a cat because after his 9 lives i still won lol.(go QUAKERS)
the players took a fancy to the loud speaker tho.
the game.
was the best first period i have seen from the dogs this season. they wanted it.(christo wanted $20 but safest money out)lol
still struggling to find the back off the net as the stats show.
dog were all over the knights they were lucky they won actually.
lacked a little in the 2nd period and with the dogs being on the penalty kill knights slotted a goal and another not long later.
the wingers and forwards were playing great together but again so net.
JIMMY stood out in canberra played very well and after giving him support from the back of the net he didnt have the crowd giving him shit.
he was pulling off saves that superman would struggled to stop. he mad the knights shots look like they were passing the puck to him(ey Manco).who also had a top game in D did very well. impressive.
dave the ENFORCER what a game got in to a push and shove (and mind you he wasnt the instigater) and HELLO, gloves are off looked like it could go anyones way but he got close to the bloke reached over pulled his jersey over his head, swithced to guns too close for missiles, game him a nice shout of uppercuts and good by charlie the refs broke it up before the bloke need to be carried off. that was entertaining.
the dogs finished strong and even know the result differs to show the performance they put in.
stoped for dinner at dickson on the way home and got a few supplies for the trip and we were off.
got to sit with the guys and have a chat, listen to some cool music and enjoy the trip home. somewhere along those lines. very enjoyable and very close team one of a life time experience.
as a whole i felt proud to be a dogs supporter after everyone trying to put shit on the dogs for the slow start to the season and hold there heads up and put a performance like that on.
its sport you win some you lose some and for the people who put shit on the dogs who use to support them are not what the dogs need as a supporter. wouldnt be sport if everyone was perfect.prime example of the bandwagoners before the soccerroos game.look at crisism they are copping now they make it to the top 32 teams in the WORLD and its not good enough.
when can someone actually say they got beaten by a better team on the day?
the results have not gorn our way on paper but they dogs were all over the knights and played far better hockey.
hope we will have the oppertunity to do it again in the seasons to come (maybe newcastle:).)
johnno i bet your kicking yourself you couldnt come lol.

Great report Dan thanks for the insight.
Its great to know how passionate you are about the team and i encourage you to keep it up. You are also spot on about admitting when we are beaten by better sides on the night. Sport is 50-50 and anything as you say can happen on the night Parramatta Eels is prove of that.Even the great sides in the NHL have lost to some of the weaker sides that’s the way sport is.
Thanks again for the report.

dan ,i have to admit it but that has been the best description of one of our games so far, without the usual negativity and being hard done by.quite the journalistic effort for a quakers lad!(lol)
i am dissapointed i could not make it due to work but i hope they will consider doing it for newcastle and organize a package deal maybe and start advertising it now perhaps? scotty, vicky, anyone…anyone.
will def be there on sat night and am bringing a few new ppl to this great sport, and gozza is it,will you be thirsty again? come up the dog pound end for a rootin, tootin good time and lets get behind OUR team
