BANQ Ice Dogs 3, Gold Coast 5

Dogs take on the tongues this weekend

At 3-0 down after the first period, it was not looking to promising to the home side at the LCC Sports Complex.  The bounces were clearly going the Bluetongues way scoring 2 out of their first two shots from some tough angles.

That didn’t stop the BANQ Sydney Ice Dogs from staging a comeback in the opening minutes of the second and middle period thanks to the efforts of the import combination of Matt Monaghan and Andrew DeCristoforo.  Not only did it happen early on into the second period but both goals were one after another and a 3-0 deficit was cut to 3-2 and the momentum was back in the Ice Dogs favour.

James Esson had his first crack at goal for the Ice Dogs replacing usual frontman in between the pipes Jimmy Herbert after 2-0 down.  Esson came up trumps on two occassions leaping across the net to stop a second shot and also shutting down a breakaway to keep his team in it.  “We are definitely pleased with the way Esson stepped in and took control” says Coach Mark Stephenson.

Unfortunately Esson couldn’t stop everything for the Ice Dogs and the Bluetongues battled back to extend the lead to 4-2 as the puck just trickled over the line as Import Dallas Costanza tucked away the rebound off the original shot.

The discipline again was much better from the Ice Dogs however they did find themselves on the penalty kill but this time forward Scott Stephenson managed to beat defenseman Ross Howe 1 on 1 to then score from a tough angle on Gold Coast to get his team 1 goal away from tieing the game up.

The Dogs kept on pressing with many near misses but Gold Coast would score one more goal with around 4 minutes left in the final period to finish the game 5-3.  The Gold Coast Bluetongues then went onto defeat the Penrith Bears 4-2 on the Sunday.  Highlights from the Ice Dogs game will be up on Ice Dogs TV later this week.

if i scored a break away screamer i wouldnt of played it down saying

“forward Scott Stephenson managed to beat defenseman Ross Howe 1 on 1 to then score from a tough angle”

ill decifer this for the fans.

scottie made ROSS HOWE look stupid when he passed him standing still made him look like he had concrete feet and then beat ANDERSON as if he was asleep. an octopus wouldnt of saved that goal. thats what the team needs and to finish shots like that.

scottie did i tell ya nice goal lol :)

heads dropped at end of first but again came firing hard in the 2nd. its a game of 3 periods and would have to say we lost the first.

hope spencer’s injury heals up cause we can do with the extra defenceman.

williow being the bigger man took the stick to the head and left it and played on.

hope the ref is ok after popping his knee cause for a second there, there was only 2 blind mice in controll of the game.

best atmosphere at a dogs game ever. those whistle things were tops i couldnt hear my loudspeaker lol

another top night at the hockey, although it didnt go our way in the end, playing better hockey and trying to keep you all fired up is a tough job. good to see a few new faces down the dog pound,we could really rock that end sometimes and hope to for the rest of the season
great debut for esson i feel and it must have been hard for jimmy”the rock” as we like to call him,but head up and i think that would be one of the hardest decisions for a coach to make.i hope these 2 guys push each other to find their best, trust me jimmy, been in that position myself at soccer and i know you will find it deep down and when it counts…geeez is that too spiritual?
all in all i think we are on the way up playing like that guys.
    ice dog fan for life!

The game was a blast from start to finish in the Electrifying atmosphere created by the supporters blowing on their horns whistles or whatever we had. When the pound went down to support Essen behind the net that was sensational.

The Ice Dogs are back to their best as far as form and only 8 mins in the box gave them time to put a few things together on their lines. The dogs were the dominant team on the night.

Impressed with Essen the goalie and as hard as it must have been for Herbert it could only strengthen Jimmy’s hunger to keep between the pipes.
For all those who don’t follow NHL quite often coaches will pull a goalie if the coach thinks their no 1 is having a off night.Leighton Philadelphia flyers goalie got pulled in his second last game during the Stanley Cup.

Enough crap to the Dogs themselves that was an outstanding effort guys and with that sort of form i believe we can go down the home stretch of the season with a lot of wins and quite possibly still get in the finals.

    Go Ice Dogs

Top game. We had plenty of puck, just lucked out in the first, thats all.
If we keep up that sort of effort, We Will Win, no doubt…

I thought Esson did well for his first game…

I tell you what DanSON14, i was sitting down at the end where Stephenson scored that goal. Your right, it was First F@#ken Class Man….!!!!!!!!
Best goal i’ve seen all year…… Pure skill.. Loved it..!!!!

Keep it up boys, Good things are coming. See you Saturday. (and Sunday..!)
