Monaghan scores hat-trick as Ice Dogs Down Bears 8-2

Dave Dunwoodie in action against the Bears

Despite being down 1-0 in the first few minutes the BANQ Sydney Ice Dogs were thriving from their last win at home and raced away with an 8-2 win that sure had everyone talking.  With a new massive banner and second chapter of “The Pound” in the stands, the Ice Dogs looked like a determined outfit and had the crowd to match.

A little luck started the barrage of goals with Tomas Manco scoring on a dump shot on net from the red line to tie up the scores at one a piece.  But from that point on it was skill and hard work that would give the Ice Dogs lead.

Matt Monaghan started his scoring spree notching the Ice Dogs second goal and was soon followed by Scottie Herbert who had a four point night himself.  With a 3-1 lead heading into the changeroom it was clear the night was far from over.

Jim Herbert was solid in net making some key saves and adding to the Bears tough night.  Todd Stephenson put away the fourth and sixth goal for the night with Monaghan squeezing in the fifth with a nice accurate shot between Bouchers legs.

With a 6-1 game on hand, tempers flared and Ice Dogs Andrew White and Bears Import Michal Lauko were clearly not getting along which led to an exchange of blows and like a chain reaction other players followed suit.

David Dunwoodie faired well in his match-up until taken out by a second bears player which almost caused a full scale brawl from both benches, however after a few minutes all eventually simmered down teams returned to changerooms and then it was back to hockey. Highlights will be up on Ice Dogs TV this week.

Once play resumed ex-Ice Dogs player Jim Zvonicek scored on the powerplay to make it 6-2 but that would be as close as the Bears would get on the night as Monaghan finalised his hat-trick and Billy Cliff scored his second goal in two games leaving it at 8-2 and making for a good team/supporter photo at the end.

the dogs play as a team of over 200 last sunday and the heart and spirit of the guys showed.

the game was how hockey is played at its finest. with a performance like that i dont think any team would of stood a chance that night.

Seriously, the way I see it. I think we’ve been playing some good hockey for the past few months. The last few games though, things have really been clicking.

The Bears didn’t know what hit them, straight up.
The Dogs were too fast, too skillful, too much defence… It was like Jimmy had puck magnets in those glove’s. And what about White…!! A warning to the other teams, if you don’t already know.. Don’t Piss Of Number 15..!!! Are you stupid? If Andrew checks your face into the boards, say thankyou and skate away…

Looks like the old Bears are gonna have some sleepless nights this week. Trying to work out how and why they went wrong. Yeah, no deal. You were not good enough, plain and simple. Eat em up Dogs!!!!!!!!!

  10. Gozza Says:

Too bad for the Bears they couldn’t pull a player and bring in another goalie!!!! He had more holes in him than Swiss cheese. He couldn’t catch a metal puck with Magnetic gloves…And the rest of them, who’s their skating coach, Nancy Kerrigan?

    Mongrel all the way boys!!!

  11. JOHNNO22 Says:

the main thing i have noticed in the last 2 games, which i might add that we have won, the defence is a lot stronger, actually going to the attacking player and putting your body on the line or at the least sticking the puck away enough for a shot to become a lame pass which i think was missing in previous games.
your right car50n i think the bears will be wondering what him them on sat night and how to fix it quick jiffy.it was like watching the dogs of old but i would have to point out that after the “incident” every one of those young guys did not miss a beat, lead by manco, matty m,hornacek.
scottie and todd were always a threat, toddys goal was shit hot, and yes you would have to say jimmys game was unf@%&*blvbl.
i cannot wait for sun nights entertainment, and it will be interesting to see how they might recover including their goalie”the sherminator” (thats gold whoever named him that)

JOHNNO22 cant thank u enough for my t-shirt im loving it ;-)
