Final Regular Season Games On The Road

Posted on 22 August 2011 by Ron

The Doggies will take to the road this weekend (Aug 27-28th) to finish off the 2011 regular season.

The Dogs will host the Melbourne Ice on Saturday , in what may prove to be the Grand Final preview as these two teams are set on a collision course to see who will take away the champtionship.

On the Sunday athe Dogs will wrap up the regular season when they travel to Adelaide to take on the Adrenaline in a game that means little to the Dogs but possibly the season for the Adelaide team as they struggle to make the playoffs.

Even though these games are of no signifigance to the playoff race for the Dogs they want to be in good form the weekend before the playoffs so there should be some good hockey coming up.

Doggie Sweep Weekend

Posted on 22 August 2011 by Ron

This weekend the AIHL had only 2 games scheduled and the Ice Dogs were featured in both and came away with all 6 points on offer.

In a fiery game Saturday the Knoghts came down to Sydney and had a win and a scoring title for their scoring sensation Addison De Boer was just 2 points away from tying the record.

In both cases the knights were unable to acheive their goals as the Dogs beat the Knights 3-2 and help De Boer to just one point.

Jimmy Herbert was superb and deserves the title of best goalie in the league after his outstanding performance including a stopped penalty shot by who else De Boer.

In the Sunday game the Bears finished their dismal season off with another loss as the Doggies coasted to a 4-2 win and now get ready for the final road trip of the year and the playoffs.

Big doggies crowd for both games and the Doggies would like to thank all the fans and supporters who came out to cheer us on in 2011.

Dog Vs Knights – Last Home Game of 2011

Posted on 18 August 2011 by Ron

In what will be the last home game of the season for the Ice Dogs, the Canberra Knights come to Liverpool for the 5:00pm game on Saturday Aug 20th.

In a game that has a lot of importance for the Ice Dogs as they are yet to solidify a 3rd place finish this season. Needing just 2 points in the next 4 games to ensure a 3rd place finish, the Dogs hope to pick up those points Saturday night in front of another packed and loud Ice Dog crowd.

Canberra Knights has the top assist getter in league history with them,  Addison De Boer has picked up an amazing 52 assits while tallying 79 points on the season. Addison and other import Britt Ouellette have combined for nearly half of the Knights offence this season. This combination will be ready to go as they hit the ice Saturday.

Dispite Canberra captain Mark Rummukainen talking shit stating  “We’ll come out firing, and if they (Sydney Ice Dogs) want to take us lightly that’s up to them but hopefully it will bite them on the ass” , the Dogs remain focused on the job ahead.

The Dogs have a 3-0 strangle hold on the season series against the Knights this season and want to put the final nail in the coffin for the Knights and their season.

Come on out and support the Dogs Saturday Night.

Doggies Clinch Playoff Spot

Posted on 14 August 2011 by Ron

In a exciting weekend of hockey the Dogs have cemented a place in the 2011 playoffs with a resounding 7-0 win over the Bears.

In what looked like what was going to be a huge blowout the Dogs shut down their offence after jumping to  5-0 lead after the first period.

The Dogs then settled into their defensive game and skated away with a 7-0 victory with the shutout shared beteen Jimmy Herbert and Colin Downie.

In the Sunday game the Dogs travelled to Newcastle to play the Semi-final preview.

In this fast paced game the Dogs fell short 3-1 thus ending the hopes of a 9 game winning streak.

“We just didn’t get any breaks” said head coach Ron Kuprowsky as the Dogs outshot and outplayed the Northstars but were unable to get more puck past Northstar goalie Ezzy.

“Its was a matter of a couple crossbars, a disallowed goal and a goal post that seperated us” continued the coach , “But this sets us up for the playoffs against them and now we have more to play for than just a spot on the ladder, so they should watch out as we will try a few new things next time we meet in Melbourne”

The Dogs will sure up their 3rd spot on the ladder next weekend when they play another double header here in Sydney.

For the final home game of the year the Dogs host the Knights on Saturday at Liverpool and then play the Bears Sunday at Penrith.

Make sure you come down to  cheer on the Dogs and wish them well as they head for the playoffs.

Dogs – Newcastle Aug 14

Posted on 12 August 2011 by Ron

Doggies dropped a close one but came away with more positives than negatives.

In a close fought battle the Dogs Powerplay were unable to get things rolling while all 3 Newcastle goals came off Penalty situations.

The Dogs played a fast skating, high intencity game and went away from their usual physical style to feel out the Northstars and get a better feel for the team they will most probably play in Melbourne for the Semi-Finals.

“The win would have been nice but what we got was more valuable”, said coach Kuprowsky. “We got to see their weaknesses, and even though we did not capitalize on them we now know where they are”

Dogs Beat Knights

Posted on 01 August 2011 by Ron

The Dogs Headed up the Federal Highway on Saturday to play against the Canberra Knights.

With the playoff picture starting to come a bit more clear the Doggies know that each game is a big game and a must win if they plan to make the playoff round this year.

With that in mind the Dogs got the quick jump on the Knights and with import Bert Malloy netting 2 and Mitch Bye continuing his scoring streak by notching one the Dogs went into the shed after the first period 3-1.

The second period saw the Doggies taking a few penalties and were continually opening the door for a Knights comeback as the knights won the second period and it was 4-3 after the 2nd.

In a see-sawing third period the Dogs went up 5-3 on Billy Cliffs goal but the stubborn Knights refused to give up and closed the gap again to one and with just under 5 minutes to making it 5-4 and it was nervous times for the Doggies and the loyal supporters who came down to Canberra with the Doggies.

But with time running down Matt Monaghan put away his second for the evening and all hopes for Canberra that night as the Dogs took the lead and eventually the game 6-4.

This was a big win for the Dogs as they now hope to clinch a playoff spot next weekend when the host the Bears at Liverpool on Saturday and the NorthStars in Newcastle Sunday night.

See you all there…
